batwing™ expedition: 32 sq ft batwing™
The prominent feature of the batwing™ is the hanglider inspired airfoil. The batwing™ efficiency and low centre of effort provide superior performance on all points of sail. Full battens prohibit flogging and assure good manners on the water and on the beach. Serious paddlers will appreciate the batwing’s light weight & compact stowage.
Top adventurers choose the batwing™ for their expeditions:
Verlen and Valerie Kruger chose batwing™ for their two continent canoe expedition, a successful attempt to canoe from the Arctic Circle to Cape Horn.
Renowned adventurer, climber and author, Jonathan Waterman, chose a batwing™ kayak rig for his “odyssey among the inuit”, a two season expedition across the arctic Northwest Passage.
sail features: • two-ply leech, luff and foot • webbed-on stainless steel d-ring on clew • tapered fibreglass battens for a precise airfoil • durable webbing batten adjusters • heavy duty sail bag • zippy reef (reefing as easy as closing a zipper)
batwing™ expedition: wingbone™
The wingbone™ is a lightweight compression strut that acts as a boom for the batwing™ sail.
Use of the wingbone™ makes the sheeting point much less critical.
While sailing downwind, the wingbone™ limits the bend of the lower batten which provides more projected area downwind and less upper leech twist for more power and control. This makes the batwing™ even more controllable when gybing, very important in heavy winds.
batwing™ expedition: boss™ (balogh outrigger stabilising system)
The boss™ gives the ability to convert from a kayak to a sailing kayak and back, at any time, on the water or the beach.
Using light weight aluminium tubes for the akas (struts) and modern laminates to make inflatable amas (outrigger hulls) Balogh were able to drastically reduce weight and offer unbelievable stowability. You can rig or de-rig your kayak on the water and in most cases stow the complete rig with outriggers in your boat or on deck.
